Single Oil Soap Making – Olive Oil Castile Soap

For this soap, I used 100% refined olive oil for my base oil to make what’s called a castile soap. I also added essential oils and kaolin clay. Lather tests at the end.

**** RECIPE ****
Refined Olive Oil – 100%

Superfat – 5%

Water = 1.8 x sodium hydroxide (36% lye solution)

To calculate the sodium hydroxide for your specific recipe size, you can use a soap calculator like the one at Majestic Mountain Sage:

Essential Oil Blend:
Lime – 40%
Lemon 40%
Rosemary – 10%
Litsea Cubeba – 5%
Patchouli – 5%

For help calculating essential oil usage rates:
