Hailing from the Park City, Utah, Liz Freeman is truly an artist in sky sports working as a professional skydiver, avid BASE jumper, and an aerial camera/stunt woman. Liz started her career in 2009 when she began skydiving at Skydive Utah. She relocated to Hawaii in 2011 where she began work as a camera flyer. Liz had never been interested in wingsuit jumping as she had lost a boyfriend to the sport. She decided to try it one fateful summer, however, on a close friend’s recommendation. She says her first flight was peaceful and helped her feel connected to her late boyfriend. She was hooked to say the least!
Since then, Liz continued to fly and train. Eventually, Liz picked up BASE jumping. (BASE is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth.) The main difference between BASE jumping and skydiving is that you are parachuting from a fixed object as opposed to a moving object. There are a few different types of BASE jumping—the style that Liz prefers is wingsuit BASE jumping. The suit itself is somewhat self-explanatory but, essentially, Liz wears a suit with “wings” and jumps off of cliffs all over the world. It takes years of practice to fly a wingsuit off of a mountain, but Liz has had many opportunities that have helped her perfect her craft.
In a high-risk sport like this, it’s important for Liz to spend time preparing both mentally and physically. She says, “I have a routine I practice before every jump, which includes applying essential oils. I use blends of doTERRA On Guard® and Elevation oils to help keep me going on the long hikes [up to jump spots]. A calm mind is a focused mind, so I typically apply doTERRA Serenity® oil and PastTense® on the neck to quiet the mental chatter. When my body is sore from hiking, I use Deep Blue® Rub. It’s magic to tight muscles and a stiff neck! When needed, I use doTERRA Breathe® essential oil in my diffuser.”
