Nasal Polyps develop on the lining of the nose or sinuses. They are benign soft growths that sonsist of swollen mucosa and grow either singly or in clusters. When the mucous membranes in the nose or sinuses get inflamed, fluid builds up in their cells and over a peiod of time they develop into nasal polyps. These polyps grow around the edges of the nose and sinuses. When they are small, they do not cause any problem but if they become inflamed due to bacterial and viral infections, fungus, sinusitis and chronic inflammation, they block the nasal airways, which give rise to difficulty in breathing, snoring, headaches, runny nose, nasal stuffiness, profuse nasal drainage, loss of sense of smell, facial discomfort and mouth breathing.
