Let’s make a kitchen sponge spray! I’ll admit I’m a little obsessed with clean kitchen sponges. It is all that bacteria in the sponge and how quickly it grows . . . enough said!
You can make a kitchen sponge spray with pure essential oils and natural ingredients. It’s safe enough to use every day, and the essential oils are strong enough to reduce bacteria growth. This recipe works well as an all-purpose cleaner too, so you can use it on surfaces in your kitchen and bathroom.
This recipe fills a 2 oz (60 ml) bottle:
Fill bottle ¾ full with water (0:58)
1 tsp Castile soap (1:14)
1 tbsp Hydrogen peroxide (1:52)
Dash of white vinegar (2:18)
10 drops Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita) (2:40)
5 drops Eucalyptus essential oil (Eucalyptus globulus) (3:06)
5 drops Lemon essential oil (Citrus limon) (3:20)
Spray your kitchen sponge at night before bed or anytime it can sit for a few hours.
I’ve discovered that vinegar and hydrogen peroxide are great for cleaning when they’re used one after the other. But mixing them in the same blend actually results in paracetic acid. That works for cleaning, but is potentially corrosive and irritating. You can make this blend without the hydrogen peroxide.
